Film director/Screenwriter Katt Shea has been honored by retrospectives of five of her critically acclaimed films at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City, The British Film Institute in London and various festivals throughout Europe.
Recently, Film Forum in NYC exhibited a comprehensive retrospective of her films and Fantaspoa, one of the largest genre film festivals in the world, is presenting her with their Career Achievement Award; the first ever given to a female film director and she is credited for “inspiring a generation of young filmmakers.”
Critics have compared Shea to Martin Scorsese, Oliver Stone and even Ingmar Bergman. Veteran filmmakers Francis Ford Coppola and Sidney Pollack have championed her.
Shea’s first studio film, The Rage: Carrie 2, received rave reviews in The L.A. Times, The San Francisco Chronicle, The New York Post, The Village Voice and The Nation.
Shea’s movies set trends within the industry. Poison Ivy inspired dozens of high profile imitators, and has become a cult classic. The influence of even her earliest low budget films is still felt within the thriller genre.
Shea’s first TV Movie for CBS, Sharing The Secret, won the prestigious Peabody Award. Airing on sweeps week, The Hollywood Reporter paid tribute: “Some first rate performances, along with Shea’s fine tuned direction create Sharing The Secret’s intelligent two hours.”

Shea now presents her much-anticipated first novel Batshit Black, a provocative YA novel on Amazon.You might find her riding her beautiful quarter horses Henry and Peace through historic Vasquez Rocks or at local restaurants, with “the boys” tied at a parking space, in her quaint home town of Agua Dulce, California.

Our classes are carried out using Zoom so you need to make sure you computer is Zoom compatible and tested- (Voice-Video). Please make sure you have a good fixed internet connection.
